As Additional Tribal Commissioner of Amravati / Aurangabad revenue divisions, transformed the teaching methods for tribal students and made learning easy and student friendly. Started local bare foot doctor’s scheme with generic medicines in ashramshala’s involving local women of villages by training them. Started livelihood earning programme for tribal and Pardhi communities of Marathwada region.

As director of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, removed massive encroachments from forest lands from Malad, Kandivali and Goregaon areas of Mumbai suburban. Started a plastic free Borivali National Park campaign and a peoples’ friendly project called Mumbaikars for SGNP to mitigate the human-animal conflict in surrounding areas of Borivali Nawegaon Park (SGNP). Since 2012 this project is running successfully and now being replicated in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Rajasthan Forest Department is in the process of adopting a similar model.

In the next posting, Mr.Limaye worked as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) West, Mumbai and supervised conservation of wildlife of the Western Ghats, National Parks and Sanctuaries in and around Sahayadri mountains, Nashik region, Satpuda ranges and dry regions of Marathwada.

Mr Limaye’s last posting before attaining superannuation was as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), M. S. Nagpur between 6th July 2021 to 30th September 2022.

As Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) East, Nagpur, was instrumental in conserving wildlife of Vidarbha region which includes five tiger reserves namely,Tadoba, Melghat, Pench, Navegaon-Nagzira and Bor.

Being an officer that promotes scientific research of nature and wildlife, Mr Limaye’s support has encouraged many scientific projects in Maharashtra. A young research scholar by the name Amit Sayyed and his associates named a newly discovered species of Gecko as “Cnemaspis limayei” in 2018. This new species of lizard is found in the Western Ghats. Another researcher, Rajesh Sanap working in the Aarey area near Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali discovered a new species of spider and named it “Jerzego Sunillimaye” in 2019. This is the only second species of spider under the genus ‘Jerzego’ in India. This species was discovered by Sanap and his associates when they were working on the ‘jumping spiders’ found in the area.
