Dr Jeevan Kuruvilla A Community Health and Development Professional from Trivandrum, Kerala, Dr. Jeevan had his major encounter with snakes and snakebites during his stint at the Nav Jivan Hospital, Satbarwa – a unit of Emmanuel Hospital Association, a Christian medical mission organisation which serves mainly in North and North East India. Having had quite a good exposure to snake bites during his graduate studies at Medical College, Trivandrum, Jeevan slowly realized the socio-economic implications of snake bites in the rural community. Thus along with his other interests in Community Health which ranges from issues such as Tuberculosis Control, Primary healthcare, Nutrition, Family practice, Health Economics, Community Development, Millet promotion and cultivation, Poultry management – concept of backyard captive poultry Dr. Jeevan got involved in advocacy about snakes and snake bites as well as facilitated research. At present, Dr. Jeevan serves at the Kachhwa Christian Hospital in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh where he is again involved in snake bite management along with his general practice and Community Development. Dr. Jeevan is married to Dr. Angeline, a Clinical Pathologist who avidly shares his passion to serve poor and marginal communities. They are blessed with 4 children – Shalom, Charis, Hesed and Arpit. In April 2016, Dr. Jeevan would be moving to the Barwadih in Latehar district, Jharkhand to work along with the Claretian Fathers who are involved in Primary Health Care and Community Health and Development in the region which is predominantly inhabited by the Oraon and Munda tribal community. He is looking forward to work with snakebites victims in that region along with Family Practice and Community Health and Development work.
